Hi, my name is David Hamill and this is a brief description of the work I did for the Chisomo Idea as part of my senior show at ASU.
This exhibition took place at the Phoenix Urban Research Lab (PURL) from May 1st, 2009 through May 14th in downtown Phoenix, AZ. The Chisomo Idea was the subject of my senior project as well as a movement that I was already beginning to work on after I met Noel Musicha in 2008. This was my chance to finally dedicate some time to such an amazing idea that was really in need of some graphic design and web development.
I worked closely with Noel to develop material that met the needs of The Chisomo Idea such as a preliminary logo and website, and then I created a visual aesthetic that captured the essence of this new energetic movement of young people reaching out to help others.
The event was a huge success, giving The Chisomo Idea a boost of publicity and attention to their cause.
The outcome of this project was much better than I anticipated. The hard work and lack of sleep paid off and people reacted to the exhibit positively and with a lot of curiosity. The style of the display was supposed to be energetic and hopeful despite the contrasting mood of the photograph in the banner.
I figured that if you want people to get involved and become inspired by an idea or cause, then you can’t make them feel guilty or helpless. You have to show them solutions and ask them to think creatively with you.
By far the most rewarding graphic design project I have done.
