Has your life been changed by a coach, a teacher, a mentor, a pastor, a counselor, or friend? How different would you have turned out without them?
At Chisomo Idea, we believe in the power of such relationships. We believe that these life on life encounters have the power to alter the course of one’s destiny forever.
This is why, every week, we make it a priority for college students to travel from their homes and college dorm rooms to enter the “at-risk” communities that we work in to walk alongside the kids, youth and families that are part of our programs.
Typically, the hope is that those that come and mentor will impact the lives of their mentees. However, without fail, it turns out that it is the lives of those that sacrifice that are changed forever.
Don’t take this from us. Listen to the testimony of one of our college mentors, Karen Martins:
“My name is Karen Martins. I am a mentor at Chisomo Idea. I volunteer during the Thursday outreach program and I teach the little kids 6 and under, and help with the Health program initiatives carried by Chisomo Idea. Chisomo Idea has impacted my outlook on life in a positive way because it has helped me understand that I can still bless someone who is not as privileged as I am. It has helped me to serve with joy knowing I am able to be part of someone’s life story. It has also taught me how to work with different people groups, which has in turn taught me tolerance, sharing, and patience. Lastly and mostly importantly, it has really shown me the goodness of God and how God works in different areas of His people’s lives. The community I serve in, Chinsapo, has friendly people, which has made it easy to serve. They are also a curious people who are eager to learn and listen to what we have to share. I am excited for the future of Chisomo Idea. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for this organization because I enjoy serving with Chisomo Idea. I hope to see the home office running internship programs in country because I believe there is a lot to learn from the team, and two days a week is not enough for me.”
We invite you to become part of this life changing initiative. Do more than watch and read. Become the movement.
